Europe on string
Europe on String is an eTwinning-Comenius Project based on artistic expression and the exchange of social and cultural aspects and influences. One of the founders of our project at San Fernando Primary and Infants School in Aranjuez developed the idea of this project working with eight primary and pre-school centres in Belgium, the United Kingdom, France, Turkey the Czech Republic and Finland.
One of the most important objectives of Europe on String is to encourage freedom of expression, the expression of feelings and values, and the respect for other European languages and cultures. It is a unique opportunity for the teachers involved to acquire a thorough knowledge of the educational systems of the participating countries and to share ideas and impressions.
The Project is based on the idea of a puppet theatre. This idea is used as a vehicle and source of knowledge which allows others to discover the cultural identity, history, traditions and folklore of each individual country. The pupils participate actively in the theatre production from the dialogues and scripts to the backgrounds and stage sets. The amusing puppets are made by the pupils from other countries.
The pupils learn to work as part of a team, increasing their awareness of the importance of visual communication and the use of foreign languages. Above all, they learn how to handle and benefit from the use of communication tools, such as, emails, chats, video conferences, photographic albums, films puppets and the animated drawings of puppets etc.
We congratulate the teachers and pupils for their active participation in the Project. The Project, Europe on String, stimulates the imagination; encourages free artistic expression; and contributes to the development of linguistic competence in a learning context which is both playful and meaningful. Finally, the Project is the product of many European countries working together with a genuine feeling of European identity.
