Pek, the traveller flea
In this eTwinning project several European schools, among them the IES Clemente de Santiago de Compostela and the Centro de Profesores de Nájera, have jointly created a comic which narrates the adventures of a travelling flea. Each school has created the adventures of the flea in their own country and the final result is a trip half way round
In a first phase each school wrote the script of Pek’s adventures in their own city in English and drew it with black ink. The vocational training students coloured the images using the image editor Gimp. Then the schools translated the script into their native language and lastly the production team generated the comic with Scribus.
This project is proof that the will to work as a team makes it possible to overcome obstacles which at first sight seem insurmountable: five different languages, multiple drawing styles, pupils from different levels… An intelligent work plan has made it possible to achieve a high quality end product which is available in seven languages and in which we are sure that each and every pupil enjoyed creating his or her part as much as reading the contributions of the others.
Thanks to this project the pupils have become aware that Europe is made up of several countries and that in spite of there being so many different languages, communication is always possible thanks to what is learned at school. And in the process they have learned to use a multitude of ICT tools.
It is good to read comics but it is undoubtedly much more exciting to create them.
